Delegates from Ukraine and Russia will meet on Monday. Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is asking his allies to push Russia to stop the attacks.
Delegates from the United States and Ukraine have started talks in Saudi Arabia, according to Ukraine’s Defence Minister, Rustem Umerov. The talks between US and Ukrainian are part of peace efforts led by US President Donald Trump’s administration.
“On Sunday, Umerov said they discussed ways to protect energy sites and important infrastructure from attacks.”. However, there is disagreement about what a partial truce would include, as Russia and Ukraine have different views.
Umerov wrote on X, “We are following the Ukrainian President’s order to bring peace closer and improve security.”
On Sunday, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said he was hopeful about the important talks to end this war. Moreover he told Fox News that he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted peace. “I don’t think he wants to take over all of Europe,” Witkoff added.
The Russian and US delegations will have separate meetings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday.
Meanwhile, Russian drone attacks in Ukraine overnight have killed at least seven people. Furthermore Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has asked Western allies to put more pressure on Russia to stop its attacks before the peace talks begin.
“On Sunday, the city’s military administration said a drone attack on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, killed three people, including a five-year-old child, and injured 10 others.”
In another attack, four people died in the Donetsk region. According to regional Governor Vadym Filashkin. Moreover, an attack on the front-line town of Dobropillya killed three of them.”
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram that emergency services were sent to different parts of the city to deal with fires and damage.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia sent 147 drones overnight to different parts of Ukraine. They also said that 97 drones were destroyed, and 25 failed to hit their targets.
Zelenskyy said on social media that attacks like the one in Kyiv happen every day in Ukraine.
“This week alone, Russia has used over 1,580 guided bombs, nearly 1,100 attack drones, and 15 different missiles against our people,” . Furthermore he said. “We need new solutions and more pressure on Moscow to stop these attacks and the war.”
