According to the city police officer,Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani died in the blast happened inside the seminary after Friday prayers. KP Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, said the attacker targeted to Maulana Hamidul haq Haqqani.

Inspector told reporters that Maulana Hamidul Haq, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami, had died. The KP police chief claims that it was a suicide bombing.

Emergency teams have reached the scene, and police have sealed off the area for safety and investigation of the blast

Rescue officials said more than 20 people were injured. An emergency has been declared in all hospitals in Peshawar.

Eye witnesses utter that some portion of the mosque was damaged due to the blast.

Maulana Hamidul Haq became the leader of the party after his father, but Maulana Samiul Haq, was killed in 2018.  Sami was run through several times at his home in Rawalpindi.

According to the seminary’s website, Darul Uloom Haqqania was founded by Islamic scholar Maulana Abdul Haq Haqqani in September 1947.

The seminary has faced controversy over the years but also some students were linked to the murder of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. However, the madrassa has denied any connection to those accused.

Well-known Taliban leaders who studied at Darul Uloom Haqqania include Amir Khan Muttaqi, Abdul Latif Mansoor, Maulvi Ahmad Jan, Mullah Jalaludin Haqani. while other are Maulvi Qalamudin, Arifullah Arif, and Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa, According to the BBC.

Denunciations on Maulana Abdul Haq Haqqani

President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the blast and expressed sadness over the attack. In a statement,  he said, “Terrorists are enemies of the country and humanity.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the explosion at Darul Uloom Haqqania. He wished Maulana Haq and the other injured people a quick recovery, said by Prime Minister’s Office.

Fitnal Khawarij Behind Suicide Attack on Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani

Security sources say that the banned terrorist group Fitnal Khawarij was responsible for the suicide attack at the Nowshera madrassa.

Early reports suggest that terrorists linked to the Khawarij is responsibili for the incident.

Recently, Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani spoke at a Muslim World League conference, also he strongly supported women’s education.

Moreover he claims not allowing women for getting an education goes against Islamic teachings but he started receiving threats.

Authorities are still collecting information and investigating about the explosion and its effects.
